Let's talk about birds

Right! Let's talk birds! You may already know that in the UK right now, taking place alongside this year’s General Election, is an alternative election - to find Britains National Bird. The campaign highlights ten iconic birds that have a special place in our hearts, but only one can win the top prize. Who will you vote for? The robin and bluebird are unsurprisingly heading up the front as firm favourites amongst the nation, but maybe your voting will lean towards the magestic swan, the striking kingfisher, the puffin or barn owl or perhaps you prefer a bird of prey and will give your vote to the red kite or hen harrier, or just maybe the humble blackbird or often overlooked wren will be your bird of choice.

You can visit the official website to vote. Voting will close at midnight on 7 May 2015 and the winner will be announced soon after.

We are currently still deciding on our vote (and personally we think the pigeon is probably a bit put out to have not even made the top ten).

In the mean time we've put together a selection of bird themed items from the shop to get us all in the mood while we mull it over.

Wooden bird decorations - £2.50
Bird tealight holders - £4.95
Glass bird bottles - £7.50

Garden Birds teatowel - £6 (this design is also available as gift wrap)
Bird brooches - £3-10
Paint your own birds - £12

Let us know in the comments below who you think should be Britain's national bird, do you have a favourite?
